Up until now, I have only used masking fluid to mask off areas of the paper that I wanted to stay white. I wondered what would happen if I masked off areas that had already been painted with the watercolors. I was a little afraid to do this, so I decided to experiment first and see what happens.
I masked off big areas of the paper and then painted the whole surface with some ultramarine blue.
I think a little bit of the color came up with the masking, and I also got a little rip in the paper.... which might have happened because the paper might have been little damp in that area before I applied the mask. I think If the paper is bone dry that that might not have happened. Anyway, I think my findings were... good to know.
Several of my friends on facebook are bakers, and they post photos of yummy looking things. I saw a photo of some blueberry muffins the other day, and I thought I would give it a try in watercolors. I used some masking fluid to create the frosting. I'm not completely happy with this painting... The background feels a bit muddy to me. I might try this again some other time...
After watching a video demonstration on youtube, I played around with some "color lifting" on this abstract watercolor painting. It's nice to know that you are not "stuck" with what you do with watercolors. You can change it. You may not always be able to get back to the white of the paper, but at least there is some flexibility.
My cousin saw one of my paintings and admired it, so I asked her if she would like it, and she said it would look nice in her livingroom... so I sent it to her, and today, she posted a photo of it for me to see, framed and planted in it's new place on her mantle. My painting has a home... it's so exciting!
I had no idea what this painting was going to be when I started it. I spread some paint on the paper and had some fun with a spray bottle of water... that's when I saw the house and the grape vines... I wanna vineyard!
I took some photos out in the yard today and used one of some dogwood blossoms as inspiration for this watercolor painting. I am happy with the way it came out. I love spring! Digi-Framed and matted. :)
I worked and worked on this painting last night. I was happy with parts of it, so I didn't want to toss it out, but that tree in the middle was driving me crazy. I finally decided I was done with it and would just put it away. When I scanned it, I thought, what would happen if I cropped it... and wellah! Not bad, not too bad! Now, that's my idea of a fun "waterpark". :)
I delivered and set up my artwork for the Dowagiac Dogwood Fine Arts Festival yesterday. Heartfelt is at the Edward Jones Investment Office, and The Creative Wall is at the First Source Bank. I took some photos to remember the occasion. The people I met at the Bank and Office were very friendly and nice. I am happy that my works were accepted into the festival... it's been a great experience so far.
Been swamped with work again, so it took me a few days to get this little painting done. The good news is that I actually got another painting done tonight, but it is still drying, so I will have to wait and show it to you tomorrow. I really like painting the birch trees, and boulders. I think I am longing to be outside enjoying the beautiful weather. The trees outside our house are ready to burst open their flowers, tomorrow will be the day! Of course, it will probably rain.

Rollin' the Hay - Watercolor
Yesterday, when I finished the birch trees painting, I thought to myself, "what to paint next" ... haystacks... then I remembered seeing the rolls of hay in the summertime, and I thought that would be fun... It may be "no Monet" but it was a fun "Rollin' the Hay". (Sorry, I couldn't resist). ;)

About Me
- Deb Ammerman
- I am a graphic designer by trade, mother, wife, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin... and so on. After closing down the Digital Scrapbook web site that I owned and operated for 5 years, I decided that it was time to get away from the computer as much as I can outside of work, and get my hands messy again. My family is getting older, not me, but they are, and my little bird will be flying the nest in about a year. I know that I am going to need a distraction when that day comes, so I have gone back to school (The self-education route) to learn and experiment with the fine arts again. I am having a blast, and am enjoying this new journey. I love the support and inspiration I have found in the community of artists who blog on-line... Please feel free to leave comments or questions, I love to hear from you.
